History of the Ullapool Woodturning Centre
The business was first set up in 1991 in Easter Ross by Alec & Rosie Mutch of A & R MUTCH (Woodcrafts), and sold mainly, finished products. It quickly became apparent that there was a need for a supplies outlet and also tuition for wood turners, which Alec & Rosie took on board.
After a move in 1994 the business successfully re-established at Lochbroom, Ullapool and became The Ullapool Woodturning Centre. Alec worked as the main craftsman on site, Rosie worked as the front of house person, dealing with all customers. They also used the talents of several other local woodworkers, whom supply a variety of hand made products. The supplies side of the business increased in both variety and quantity over the years and continues to do so. Alec & Rosie retired at the end of May 2014
The business is now located on the Black Isle at the Old School Cullicudden and is run by Andrew Walters (Andy) of Black Isle Woodturning, with Andy taking over as the main craftsman on site. We hope that the Ullapool Woodturning Centre continues to be successful as it enters an exciting new phase in it’s new home on the Black Isle.
